Privacy
Speek records your voice, because that is the only way to score speaking. This page says exactly what is kept, who else sees it, and how to have it removed.
What we collect
Your account
When you sign in with Google, Apple or Telegram we receive and store an identifier from that provider, your email address, and the name on the account. We never receive your password. You can use Apple's private relay address if you prefer; everything works the same.
What you tell us about your goal
Your target band, your own estimate of your current band, roughly when you plan to sit the exam, and whether you work or study. The last one is used because the examiner asks different Part 1 questions of students and of working candidates.
Your voice
Each answer you speak is recorded, sent to our server, and transcribed. Both the recording and the transcript are kept. The recording is kept because scoring fluency and pronunciation means listening to the audio, not reading the words — a transcript alone cannot tell a confident answer from a hesitant one.
Your results
Transcripts, band scores, the feedback generated for each answer, and the grammar and vocabulary points drawn from your mistakes.
Payments
Which pack you bought, what you paid, and a reference number from the payment provider. Card numbers never reach our servers. Payme, Click, Uzum, Apple and Google handle the card and tell us only whether the payment succeeded.
Technical
If you turn on notifications, a device token so we can send them. If the app crashes, a crash report. Server logs of requests, including timings and error messages, which we keep to find and fix faults.
Who else sees it
Speaking practice is not possible without sending your speech somewhere that can understand it. These are the only parties involved:
- Google (Gemini)
- Receives your recordings and transcripts to transcribe your speech, generate the examiner's replies, and produce your scores.
- Google (Firebase)
- Delivers push notifications and receives crash reports.
- Payme, Click, Uzum, Apple, Google Play
- Process payments. They see the transaction, not your practice.
We do not sell your data, and we do not use it for advertising.
Where it is stored
On servers in Finland, operated by Hetzner. Recordings are held in our own object storage on those servers, not on a third-party media service.
How long it is kept
Recordings, transcripts and scores stay for as long as your account exists, so that your progress over time means something and you can replay an old session.
Deleting your account removes them immediately and cannot be undone. We keep records of payments you made for the period Uzbek tax law requires.
Coins you have paid for never expire. We do not run any process that removes them, and we will not add one.
Your choices
- Ask for a copy of what we hold about you.
- Permanently delete your account and everything attached to it. This cannot be undone, and unspent coins are not refundable in cash.
- Turn notifications off in your phone's settings at any time.
Write to support@tryspeek.com and we will reply within seven days.
Age
Speek is for people preparing for IELTS and is not intended for children under 16. If you believe a child has an account, tell us and we will remove it.
Changes
If this page changes in a way that affects what we collect or who sees it, we will say so in the app before the change takes effect.
